The Tucson Unified School District plans to cut property tax rates in 2024 as property valuations have soared.
In other words, if you own a home on TUSD, your tax rate per $100,000 assessed value will be lower, but the assessed value may be higher.
Property owners within TUSD will pay the district $20.74 less per $100,000 of property value than in fiscal 2023.
Owners of $100,000 worth of homes will pay a total of $397.53 in TUSD property taxes, down from $418.27 a year earlier.
With overall property valuations in Pima County rising, a lower TUSD tax rate would still cover the county’s budget, TUSD Chief Financial Officer Ricky Hernandez said at a board meeting Tuesday night. explained.

It will be the second year in a row that TUSD slightly cuts the tax rate.
TUSD’s total budget for fiscal 2024 will be $846.8 million (up from $808 million this year), which includes $394.9 million for maintenance and operations.
The district is the largest in Pima County, with over 40,000 students in 87 schools.
TUSD on Nov. 7 approved a $480 million bond package to update and refurbish schools, add security systems, provide computer/iPad access for all students, and purchase buses. I am going to ask voters.
If voters approve, the bond package will have a tax rate of 69 cents per $100 of valuation, and the average homeowner with a $183,000 home value will pay in TUSD, costing him about $126 a year. .
