“All signs indicate that this was a substantial building, probably two storeys high,” the London Archaeological Museum said of the find, continued the BBC.

“This relatively small site in Southwark provides an insight into the changing fate of Roman London, from the early stages of London’s expansion and the region’s lavishly decorated Roman buildings, to the late Roman period when settlements dwindled. It’s a microcosm, and it will be a quieter space for people to mourn the dead,” MOLA senior archaeologist Antoinetta Lertz told The Guardian. “It’s an interesting window into the living conditions and lifestyle of the area in Roman times.”
Currently, the site is being developed as a complex of offices, residences and shops.
