Two Killed in Alabama After Shooting Incident After Football Game

Shooting Incident in Downtown Montgomery

Two individuals were killed, and 14 more sustained gunshot injuries during a shooting incident on Saturday night in downtown Montgomery, Alabama.

The shooting took place around 11:30 PM near the intersection of Bib and Commerce Streets, an area popular with tourists. This violent episode unfolded shortly after a football game between Tuskegee University and Morehouse College, as reported by the Montgomery Advertiser.

Montgomery Police Chief James Gravoys characterized the occurrence as a “mass shooting event.” Tina McGriff from the Montgomery Police Department indicated that among the deceased was an adult woman. Additionally, there were injuries to at least two boys, with one suffering from a life-threatening wound.

“In total, three victims are in critical condition, with life-threatening injuries affecting nine others,” McGriff stated.

A local news source indicated that the gunfire resulted from two groups exchanging shots in a crowd, highlighting a disturbing disregard for public safety. “The individuals involved in the shooting seemed unconcerned about the bystanders around them,” McGriff commented. “As a result, we now have 14 victims.”

As of now, police have not disclosed the identities of those responsible and no arrests have been made.

Detectives are actively exploring leads, including statements from witnesses and surveillance footage. “We encourage anyone with information, no matter how small, to come forward. Any details can help us identify those responsible,” McGriff added.

Support from state and federal law enforcement agencies is assisting the Montgomery Police Department in the investigation. This tragic incident occurred on a bustling night as the city showcased new attractions, including a Ferris wheel and various games.
