Two killed in head-on collision on Lake Mary Road

Two drivers were killed in a head-on collision on Lake Mary Road Thursday night.

The incident occurred near Milepost 330 around 6:30 p.m., according to the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office. The driver of a black Nissan Maxima crossed the center line and crashed into a Toyota Corolla.

Both drivers died at the scene of the accident. There were no passengers in either vehicle.

The Maxima driver had his license suspended, according to his representatives. There is speculation that the driver was drunk at the time of the accident. A passerby told officers he had witnessed a black car drive erratically before the crash, but ultimately toxicology determined how much alcohol and drug use contributed to the incident. It will become clear.

Law enforcement officials closed Lake Mary Road from 6:30 p.m. Thursday to 12:30 a.m. Friday to help repair the accident.

The Coconino County Coroner’s Office is also involved in the investigation.
