A typhoon caused widespread flooding in Vietnam on Monday, collapsing bridges and washing away buses, killing at least 59 people, the Associated Press reported.

According to the media, a railway bridge collapsed in Phu Tho province, swept away 10 cars and trucks and two motorbikes into the Red River, but rescue efforts were continuing.

Three people were rescued after the collapse, but 13 others remain missing, the Associated Press reported early Monday.
One of the survivors, Pham Truong Son, said: VNExpress He heard a loud noise and fell into the river.
“I felt like I was sinking to the bottom of the river,” Son told the paper, while Truong said he managed to stay afloat by clinging to a floating banana tree until he was rescued.
Hai Phong and Quang Ninh provinces are industrial centers with many factories. ExportsPower remains out in the area after the storm toppled utility poles, according to the Associated Press. Officials said the storm caused millions of dollars in losses for about 100 businesses in the area.
Typhoon Yagi packed maximum winds of 92 mph (143 kph) when it struck Vietnam on Saturday, making it the strongest typhoon the country has seen in decades, according to the Associated Press.
The storm had weakened to a tropical depression as of Monday.
The storm weakened on Sunday, but meteorologists warned that continued heavy rain could cause further flooding and landslides.
In the capital Hanoi, workers were clearing fallen trees, signs and utility poles as heavy rains continued in the northwest, the Associated Press reported.
