Yuma, Arizona (azfamily) – A suspect wanted in connection with a double murder in Tucson was shot and killed by a U.S. ex-sergeant in Yuma on Wednesday, deputies said.
The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office said four law enforcement agencies went to a home on East 37th Street, just east of S. Ave 10e, just after 12 p.m. and arrested 48-year-old David Lee McKinney. said.
Two unrelated people exited the home and McKinney was near the front door, but then went inside.
Law enforcement asked him to address them multiple times, but McKinney refused, YCSO said.
He then reportedly came out with a rifle and fired multiple shots at law enforcement, deputies said.
They returned fire and McKinney died at the scene.
No one else was hurt.
Investigators said McKinney is the suspect in Sunday’s fatal shooting that left David Johnson and Clinton Dale dead.
An arrest warrant was served for McKinney on Tuesday for second-degree murder.
It’s unclear how investigators tracked him to Yuma on Wednesday.
Law enforcement agencies involved in finding McKinney were the U.S. Marshals Service, U.S. Border Patrol, Yuma Police Department, and Yuma County Sheriff’s Office.
The Yuma Regional Critical Incident Response Team is investigating a deadly shooting in Yuma.

This is the second officer-involved shooting outside of Maricopa County and the fourth in the state so far this year.
