How are the US News Best Vacations lists determined?
US News bases its ratings on a number of factors, including user and editor rankings, seasonality, and affordability.
User and editor scores are weighted 50/50. User Her score is determined by the traveler answering yes to a prompt asking if she thinks the destination is on the list.
Editor’s scores are determined by three criteria:
- Ranking from 0 to 5 with 5 being amazing in categories such as attractions, culture, people, food, family, nightlife, adventure, romance, value and accessibility.
- The editor’s scores are then averaged to calculate the average score for each category of the above traits.
- A destination’s overall score is a weighted average of individual editorial averages and is based on the factors travelers said were most important.
