UNA twins land bass national championship



As a sudden storm swept through the area and the field battled wind and rain, twin brothers from the University of North Alabama used their home field advantage to win the 2024 Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship on Pickwick Lake.

Dylan and Carter Nutt of Lyons, ranked third in the rankings, won the Bass Pro Shops National Championship with a two-day total of 52.36 pounds. Lucas Bowers and Fisher Rogers of the University of South Carolina made a strong comeback on Day 2 to finish in second place.

Fellow UNA alums Nathan Reynolds and Banks Shaw took third place.

On Day 1, the Nutt brothers weighed in five bass for a 27.80-pound limit, including their largest bass of the day at 7.87 pounds. On Day 2, the twins reeled in back-to-back bass weighing 24.56 pounds. Their five-fish limit also included their largest bass of the entire tournament at 8.20 pounds.

For winning the tournament, the angler earned $5,000 in prize money, as well as a $1,000 ACA Logo Contingency, a $500 TH Marine Atlas Award, an Overall Big Bass Power Pole and 2,500 points toward the Bass Pro Shops School of the Year presented by Abu Garcia.

Reynolds and Shaw earned $1,500 for third place and also earned a $2,000 first place prize for being the highest-placed Yamaha Power Pay eligible team.

The Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship is the final event of the 2023-24 season for the Collegiate Angling Association of America's Bass Pro Shops Collegiate Bass Fishing Series. The tournament was also the final ACA event that would count toward the Bass Pro Shops School of the Year presented by Abu Garcia.
