University of Montevallo recognized again as a school that supports military students

The University of Montevallo has once again received recognition as a military-friendly school, underscoring its ongoing dedication to supporting military students and their families with valuable resources.

“Achieving this designation requires a lot of hardworking and committed individuals,” noted Traci Crenshaw, the Director of the Veteran Military Bureau at UM. “Without significant support from Dr. Tami Dar, student accounts, and UM student assistance, reaching our goals for military-related students would be nearly impossible,” she added.

This marks the fifth time the university has attained the Military Friendly School status since the establishment of its Veterans and Military Affairs office in 2019. Montevallo has also been recognized as a military spouse-friendly school, which is awarded to institutions that offer a high-quality educational experience to the spouses of service members.

Crenshaw emphasized that “Montevallo embodies the motto of ‘belonging to Montevallo’ by welcoming and serving veterans and their families exceptionally well.”

Founded in 2003, the organization Viqtory assesses schools and businesses, focusing on creating environments that recruit and retain military veterans as students and employees. Those who meet the criteria receive military-friendly designations. The aim is to improve professional opportunities for military members, veterans, and their spouses.

The final assessment for these designations combines survey responses from the institution with public data from various agencies, evaluating retention, graduation, job placement, loan repayment rates, and more. The analysis particularly focuses on how well student veterans fare in these areas.
