U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) on Sunday announced the deaths of two Navy SEALs who were missing off the coast of Somalia, according to a press release.

“After an exhaustive 10-day search, we regret to announce that the two missing U.S. Navy SEALs have not been located and have been listed as deceased. Illegal dhow carrying Iranian advanced conventional weapons. “Search and rescue operations for two Navy SEALs who were reported missing aboard the ship concluded on January 11, and recovery efforts are currently underway,” Centcom said.

A swell pulled one SEAL into the water while attempting to board the ship from a small combat boat, and another SEAL jumped in to try and rescue him, according to a news release.
CENTCOM officials said the two searches included “U.S., Japanese and Spanish air and naval platforms” and together covered more than 21,000 square miles. CENTCOM Commander Michael Eric Kurilla expressed his condolences to the families of the SEALs and said they would “forever honor their sacrifice and example,” according to a press statement. “We mourn the loss of two Naval Special Warfare warriors and will forever honor their sacrifice and example. Our prayers are with the SEAL families and friends, the U.S. Navy, and the entire special operations community during this time.” said Kurilla.
President Joe Biden had specifically avoided commenting on the SEAL's disappearance until news of his death broke. Instead, Biden made one public appearance as a volunteer in Philadelphia. The White House national security spokesperson later told the Daily Caller that officials and the Pentagon were “concerned” about the two men and their families.
Officials will not release any further information about the incident out of respect for the SEAL's family, the press release said.
