The four US and Canada showdown championships were not merely a huge success, but a historic success. And that was evident by the record-breaking television ratings the tournament brought.
ESPN, which featured the title game, tallied a whopping 9.3 million viewers on Thursday night. The contest peaked with a viewer of 10.4 million. But that doesn’t stop there.
In modern times, the most viewed game in the NHL was 2019, Game 7 of the Stanley Cup final between the Boston Bruins and the St. Louis Blues. 8.9 million viewers. Four countries covered their numbers in their first edition.
This number is not only a sport for hockey, but also an overall sport. In 2024, the Masters Golf Tournament recorded a viewer of 9.59 million, with Ohio and Indiana’s top five college football matchups registered a figure of 9.33 million last season.

The NHL should make this every four years (and need to be kept special, not every year). It’s far too successful not to make this a normal one.
