If you're a NASA fan or just enjoy the beauty of deep space, the U.S. Postal Service has a new option for your outgoing mail.
The group announced in a statement this week that it is releasing a $9.85 Priority Postage stamp depicting the Pillars of Creation and a $30.45 Cosmic Cliffs Priority Mail Express stamp. The image on the stamp was taken by the James Webb Space Telescope.
The USPS provided the following explanations for the two cosmic phenomena appearing on the new stamps.
“The Priority Mail stamp depicts the Pillars of Creation, a trillion-mile-tall geological formation located in the vast Eagle Nebula 6,500 light-years from Earth,” USPS said in a statement. “Columns of gas and dust envelop stars that have been forming over thousands of years. The Webb Telescope captured this eerie image in 2022, providing a new perspective on the vast starscape. clarified.”
“The Carina Nebula's cosmic cliffs are star nurseries and birthplaces of new stars and planets,” the release continued. “Vivid images of Priority Mail Express stamps captured in stunning detail by the Webb telescope reveal regions of intense energy and activity within our Milky Way galaxy.”
Both stamps are sold in packs of four.
The James Webb Space Telescope was launched by NASA on December 25, 2021. This is the largest and most sensitive telescope ever deployed in space.
