Lake Havasu police are warning residents to lock their doors before leaving their cars after seeing a spike in vehicle thefts this month.
Police said 12 vehicle thefts were reported this week, with the majority occurring on the city's south side. Police said Friday that the thefts occurred mostly at night and appeared to involve vehicles that were left unlocked and parked in residential areas.
Havasu residents are asked to ensure safety when leaving their vehicles unattended. Ideally, the vehicle should be parked in a well-lit area and valuables should be removed from the vehicle. The Lake Havasu Police Department says installing motion lights and security cameras in parking lots may be additional steps residents can take to prevent such incidents from occurring.
Residents who notice suspicious activity in their respective communities should contact the Lake Havasu Police Department at 928-855-1171 or anonymously at 928-854-8477. Tips can also be emailed to police. tips@lhcaz.govor on the city's website www.lhcaz.gov.
