In 2023, the Christian School Girls Basketball team in Mid Vermont confiscated a state playoff contest for Long Trail High School, an opponent that has transgender (biological male) athletes on the team.

Action was taken immediately against the Vermont Principal Association’s Mid Vermont, banning the school from participating in tournaments in all track and field sports.

Fast forward two years ago, Mid Vermont is not yet permitted to compete in state athletics, but they are currently suing against the VPA for violating First Amendment rights, so they won’t fall without a fight. With women’s basketball head coach Chris Goodwin Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) Senior Advisor Ryan Tucker spoke Out kick On this issue, the company represents Christian School in suits where ADF assumes VPA.

“They kicked us out of the VPA, we got us out of the league, we got us out of women’s basketball, we got us out of every sport they run. So, volleyball, basketball, track, cross-country… they completely removed us from all the athletic competition in the state.

He continued.

“There was no way around this issue, and the state was trying to keep us out unless we changed our religious perspective,” Goodwin said. “I really feel that this is probably the only option we can pursue.”
