Former University of Alabama player and current Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has joined an effort to provide air conditioning units to 10 Philadelphia schools.
Hartz will write checks for $200,000 to help schools that do not yet have air conditioning, including Clara Barton, Gloria Casarez, Castor Gardens, D. Newlin Fell, Thomas Finletter, Fitler Academic Plus, Benjamin Franklin/Science Leadership Academy, Edward Gideon, A.S. Jenks and Theodore Roosevelt schools.
“I believe every child should have a comfortable space to learn and grow,” Hertz said.
“Philadelphia has given me so much, and I am thrilled to be able to give back to the community by supporting future leaders. Equipping our schools with essential amenities like air conditioning is the first step in helping students achieve their best.”

Philadelphia School District Superintendent Tony B. Whatton has previously said many schools wouldn't have air conditioning until 2027, but Mr. Hertz has made a big effort to raise that estimate.
“This donation not only enhances the school's physical infrastructure, but also represents a meaningful investment in the well-being and academic success of our students.” Whatlington told the Philadelphia Inquirer.“As temperatures continue to rise in Philadelphia, we know that air conditioning can have a major impact on the learning experience.”
The district's chief operating officer, Oz Hill, also echoed the importance of Hartz's donation.
“This directly impacts the immediate need for climate-controlled, environmentally appropriate instructional facilities to improve academic performance in schools that have struggled during the warmer months. This initiative will not only improve attendance and learning for current students, but also pave the way for future upgrades across the district,” Hill said.
