Victor Davis Hanson Discusses What Could Happen If AOC Is Nominated

Hanson Skeptical of Ocasio-Cortez as a Democratic Nominee

Victor Davis Hanson, a senior fellow at the Hoover Institute, expressed doubts on Fox News about the possibility of Democrats elevating Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for their 2028 presidential nomination.

According to a YouGov survey conducted from September 5th to 8th, 38% of Democrats and independents consider Ocasio-Cortez as a top candidate, compared to 23% who prefer California Governor Gavin Newsom. During an appearance on “Ingraham’s Angle,” Hanson cautioned that Democrats might regret selecting Ocasio-Cortez for their tickets.

“I think they’ve blown her significance out of proportion. [Ocasio-Cortez] has this niche appeal. But I agree with you,” Hanson remarked to Laura Ingraham.

He dismissed the idea of Ocasio-Cortez being nominated, arguing that the party would be unwilling to take that risk given Donald Trump’s increasing popularity. “I don’t think Democrats are that naive. I don’t see her being nominated because they’re aware of the domestic situation,” he added.

Hanson noted the contrast between Ocasio-Cortez and Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA. “Trump’s approval ratings are climbing. His policies resonate with many. Charlie Kirk might be one of the most impressive young political activists in U.S. history,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Zoran Mamdani, the Democratic candidate for the New York City mayoral race, seems to be gaining traction similar to Ocasio-Cortez’s. A recent poll indicated that Mamdani leads with 45% support, significantly outpacing Governor Andrew Cuomo.

However, a Gallup survey from September 8th revealed that only 42% of Democrats held a favorable view of capitalism, while 66% viewed socialism positively.
