Video Appears To Show Defendant Launching Into Judge After She Denies Him Probation

A man appears to have assaulted Nevada Judge Mary Kay Holthus during a hearing Wednesday, according to KNTV.

Video footage obtained by the outlet showed Holthus reading the verdict before shouts could be heard coming from the camera. A man was then seen jumping over the judge's bench and attempting to grab Mr. Holthus as security guards tried to restrain him. The alleged attacker was identified as Delone Redden, who had been sentenced by Holthus for felonious assault and grievous bodily harm. according to To KNTV. According to the report, Redden had pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing.

KNTV reported that prior to the incident, Holthus denied Redden's request for probation due to his criminal record and began listing his own prison terms to the court.

“I appreciate that, but I think it's time for him to taste something else, because I have a history of that.” According to Nevada law, Holthus told Redden. before he allegedly fired at the man.

According to KNTV, Redden appeared to knock Holthus to the ground before punching him. Swearing could also be heard from bystanders and courtroom security personnel who tried to pull Redden away from the judge. KNTV reported that Holthus was under observation and only suffered injuries that were not specified by the Las Vegas District Court. A security officer who tried to help intervene was also taken to hospital with injuries after the incident, the newspaper reported.

“We commend the heroic actions of her staff, law enforcement, and all others who subdued the defendant. The court remains committed to safe and secure courts and courts. is reviewing all of its protocols and will do whatever is necessary to protect the judiciary, the public and its employees,'' the district court told KNTV.
