Video has been found capturing the moment a man pulled a woman off the tracks at a subway station in Pasadena, California, and threw her into freeway traffic, FOX 11 reported Tuesday.
The woman was allegedly attacked by Juan Flores near Allen Station on Aug. 7, and Flores has been charged with attempted murder. Fox 11.
Detectives told the outlet that the victim suffered deep cuts to his face and head that required staples. (Related: “I love DC”: Woman crawls home after being beaten, pepper sprayed and robbed)
Video of the incident obtained by Fox 11 shows Flores dragging the victim over a jersey barrier, where he appears to punch and kick the victim before throwing him into the carpool lanes of the 210 Freeway.
In the video, multiple vehicles can be seen speeding by, nearly hitting the victim as she struggles to get back to the side of the road. As the victim approaches the side of the road, Flores appears to violently throw her again into the carpool lane. The woman is then seen managing to get over a jersey barrier as the suspect leaves.
Investigators said the attack was unprovoked and the victim did not know his attacker, FOX11 reported.
According to the outlet, Los Angeles County Supervisor and Metro Board Chair Janice Hahn released a statement about the attack.
“The details of the attack on a woman that took place early this morning at Allen Station in Pasadena are shocking, and I am grateful that the victim has recovered and the suspect is in custody,” Hand said in a statement obtained by the outlet. “The Board of Supervisors must conduct a full investigation into this incident…Our trains, buses and stations must be safe for passengers, and we must continue to implement safety reforms to bring our system to that level.”
In June, the commission approved a five-year plan to create a Metro Police Department to combat a rise in violence on buses and trains, FOX11 reported.
“We've heard from riders who feel uneasy just trying to get on the subway to get home, and from bus drivers who are worried about whether they can do their jobs safely,” Hahn said in the video. “The status quo is unacceptable.”
Flores is being held without bail and is scheduled to be arraigned on Aug. 27, according to FOX11.
