According to the sheriff’s office, while searching for the vehicle, a deputy was entering Skull Valley when he noticed a vehicle traveling the wrong way and veering off the road.
Police said the car hit a guardrail and blocked the road.
According to the sheriff’s office, the driver was “trying to remove his finger from a can of White Claw” when a deputy approached the vehicle.
Body camera footage shared by the sheriff’s office shows several seconds elapse between the time the officer approached and the driver rolling out the window.
The video shows the driver fidgeting with a can of hard seltzer in his right hand.
“Did you get something on your finger there?” the officer can be heard saying.
“Hmm…” says the driver.
“White nails,” interjected the policeman. “So, what’s going on? Are you okay?”
“I’m absolutely perfect,” said the driver.
The driver was arrested and charged with multiple counts of DUI and criminal damage to Yavapai County public works, deputies announced.
“We are very fortunate that no one was injured or killed by this driver,” sheriff’s officials said. “If you see a driver who may be intoxicated, please do not hesitate to call the Sheriff’s Office.”
Skull Valley is about a 115-mile drive southeast of Phoenix.
