Vikings select Bama legend Reichard as first kicker taken in 2024 NFL Draft

After five outstanding seasons in Tuscaloosa, University of Alabama kicker Will Reichard is getting an opportunity at the next level.

The Minnesota Vikings selected Reichardt in the sixth round, 203rd overall, to become their first kicker in the 2024 NFL Draft.

He also becomes the first kicker drafted out of Alabama in 58 years since David Ray in 1966.

Reichardt made the decision to return to college and use his fifth year of eligibility, and made history by becoming the NCAA's all-time leading scorer in 2023.

He was also again a finalist for the Lou Groza Award and was named the SEC Special Teams Player of the Year.

He holds the Alabama school records for field goals made (84), field goals made beyond 50 yards (10) and extra points made (295).

With the Vikings losing reliable veteran Greg Joseph to the division rival Green Bay Packers, Reichardt will have a chance to become a starting kicker in the NFL.

He will also join former Alabama teammate Dallas Turner in Minnesota, who was selected 17th overall by the Vikings in the first round.

Between the second and third days of the draft, Alabama selected six additional players.

On Day 2, Kool-Aid McKinstry was selected 41st overall by the New Orleans Saints, Chris Braswell was selected 57th by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Jermaine Burton was selected 80th by the Cincinnati Bengals.

On Day 3, Reichard followed suit with Justin Eboigbe being selected 105th overall by the Los Angeles Chargers and Jace McClellan being selected 186th overall by the Atlanta Falcons.

A total of nine players were selected from Coach Nick Saban's Alabama final team and will continue to take their talents to their respective teams at the next level.
