Eli Gold, the longtime voice of the Alabama Crimson Tide on radio, will not return to the Crimson Tide Sports Network booth next season.
He will be replaced by Chris Stewart, who served as Alabama basketball's longtime play-by-play announcer and called this season's away games. Stewart called games during the 2022 season when Gold was sidelined due to health issues.
Gold, 70, has been at the school for 35 years and has been the convener of the Alabama tournament since 1988. He is from Brooklyn, New York.

“Eli is a valued member of our broadcast team,” said Jim Carabin, vice president and general manager of the Crimson Tide Sports Network.
“We thank him for his many years of service and wish him the best in his next chapter. CTSN is proud to have Chris as a member of our exciting broadcast team who will step up and transition seamlessly into this role.” I feel lucky to have you.”
according to Jonathan Hardison FOX 6 researchers in Birmingham say Gold didn't make the decision himself or retire, the university simply chose not to bring him back.
Stewart will call both the SEC Championship Game and the College Football Playoff's Rose Bowl in Gold's place, and the transition from Gold to Stewart should be fairly seamless.
Gold, who has played Crimson Tide football for 35 years, has teamed up with Nick Saban to seven national championships over the past 17 years, the best run in the history of the sport.
Alabama will replace not just one, but two legends between Gold and Saban this offseason.
