Warm weekend ahead for Phoenix

Phoenix (3TV/CBS 5) — What a great way to start a weekend holiday. Here in the Valley, it's similarly sunny and dry across the state, with daytime highs already above 70 degrees and rising. The average high temperature for this time of year is 71 degrees.

Starting Saturday and into next week, overnight lows will start to rise above average for the first time in a while. High pressure dominates our weather pattern, bringing pleasant, dry, and mild weather across the state over the President's Day long weekend. Temperatures will be in the mid-70s in the Valley this weekend. Monday and Tuesday afternoon he could be in the low 80s. Morning lows should be in the low 50s, with some lower rural spots still in the low 40s.

Winds will begin to pick up in the highlands late this weekend and continue through the middle of next week as a huge trough of low pressure begins to move eastward. The storm will flood much of California but is expected to weaken as it moves into Arizona between Wednesday and Thursday.

At this point, the Valley will cool into the mid-70s and be covered in clouds, but no rain is expected at this time. The first precipitation of the storm, including light rain and snow, is likely to fall on Wednesday, mainly in higher elevations. Models are not yet fully aligned with timing or precipitation, so keep Arizona families up to date with the latest information from the First Alert Weather Team.
