YUMA, Arizona (KYMA, KECY-TV) – Today is a mild, sunny and dry Friday, but temperatures are feeling their warmest yet this week.
Even after the sun sets, it will still be warm with temperatures staying in the low 80s late tonight.
Temperatures will continue to rise this weekend, with highs approaching 100 degrees Celsius on Saturday and Sunday.
It will also be a little windier this weekend with gusts of up to 20 mph expected.
Rising temperatures could create a moderate heat risk across the region.
Stay hydrated and cool, and be sure to follow our heat-prevention tips.
Increased humidity heading into early next week could bring daily showers and isolated thunderstorms in higher elevations, along with the potential for stronger winds.
We’re keeping an eye on whether a storm will form within the southwestern desert, which currently has a 10% chance of occurring between Tuesday and Thursday.
The most recent observations along the Gila River near Dateland continue to report depths of just over 9 feet, slightly above the mild flood stage.
Further down the river, the depth near the dome is 22.2 feet, above the action stage (20 feet).
The flood warning remains in effect until 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 16, as water from the Painted Rock Dam continues down the Gila River through Yuma County.
