Watch: Katie Britt pauses hearing to congratulate Alabama, UConn basketball – ‘I’ll never miss an opportunity to say Roll Tide’

U.S. Sen. Katie Britt has made no secret of the fact that she is a University of Alabama alumna. During her Senate confirmation hearing on Wednesday, she noted the school's surprising run to the Final Four for the first time in school history.

Britt also congratulated Connecticut Sen. Chris Murphy on the University of Connecticut's back-to-back championships and win over the Crimson Tide in the semifinals.

“I have to publicly congratulate you,” Britt said to Murphy, “Our two teams met in the Final Four and I'm incredibly proud of the Crimson Tide and all of our players for the positive impact they had on the tournament and the state.”

She went on to talk about players who have been influential in the Tide's run, including Grant Nelson, Nick Pringle and Mark Sears.

“After all, everyone [UConn] “Not only did we make it to the Final Four, but we won the tournament two years in a row, so it's pretty awesome. I never miss an opportunity to say Roll Tide, but I've got to take my hat off and say congratulations and cheer on the Huskies,” Britt said.

Murphy joked back that Alabama played its best game against the Huskies in the last two years, but Connecticut still won by 14 points.

“We'll be back! We'll be back next year,” Britt concluded.
