Former Alabama head coach Nick Saban cited a desire to spend more time with his family as the reason for his retirement.

“The Beamers are waiting for you,” said the former first lady of Alabama football. “The Beemers are waiting for a family photo,” she said, pulling Saban away.
Since Saban no longer has any reporting obligations, he can decline interviews whenever he sees fit. And there's no reason to think it's more convenient than keeping his long-term wife happy.
Saban said at the beginning of the press conference that he received the retirement guidelines shortly after the announcement.
“The day after I retired, the “12 Commandments of Retirement'' arrived at the table next to my chair. So I got an order from headquarters, dude. It didn't take long,” Saban joked.

The event, honoring both Frank Beamer and Bobby Bowden, was held in Birmingham on Monday night.
