Doug Barron won his first major on the PGA Champions Tour over the weekend when he won the Legions Tradition at Greystone Golf and Country Club in Birmingham. As per tradition for the tournament, the winner receives a green bicycle as part of their prize money.
Baron wasted no time, racing his new bike around the course and taking an epic victory lap.
Barron, who has battled injuries throughout his career and has had an impressive resume, shot 17-under 271 to take the win against a stellar field.
Steven Alker, Ernie Els, Stewart Cink and defending champion Steve Stricker were all atop the leaderboard, but Barron outlasted them all with a 4-under performance on Sunday to take the win.
“I'm living a good life and I don't beat myself up about my golf,” he said after his win. “If I did I would have had a nervous breakdown because my career has been a rollercoaster. I'm just trying to enjoy life and beating myself up. This is a real bonus.”
