‘We Have To Tighten Our Belts’: Byron Donalds Calls For DOGE Cuts To Continue

Florida Republican Rep. Byron Donald appeared at Fox Business on Tuesday, calling for continued cuts in government spending.

Despite prior warnings about the risk of government shutdowns, House Democrats voted 217-213 by votes against the six-month government funding extension known as a continuing resolution. When featured in “Editing the Evening,” host Elizabeth MacDonald asked Donald if the Senate could pass a continuing resolution and whether it would include removing budget cuts proposed by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Donald said he supports the idea.

“I think that’s what the Senate should do. We have to tighten our belts when we have to cut. You have a left that I want to talk about the stock market all the time. And as a former financial advisor, I also want a high stock market, but our economy needs to be based on sound economic principles,” Donald said.

As the Senate is poised to decide ongoing resolutions, including proposed cuts, Donald said only a simple majority is needed to make significant progress in financial responsibility. (Related: Details of DEM’s potential fallout that Britthume refuses to vote for bills to avoid government shutdown)

“It cannot be based on large government spending and government stimuli. It’s simply not sustainable, so we need to tighten our belt here in Washington. The Senate should follow the lawsuit and allow us to continue cutting Doge, so we can ride a healthy financial foothold for the future,” Donald said.

Trump and House Republicans plan to include doge cuts in their 2026 budget process. On the true society, Trump hinted at supporting a major challenger to Massey after Kentucky’s representative opposed the GOP’s suspension funds bill.

Donald said he supported continued cuts in government spending, particularly on the Department of Education budget. This stance comes as the US education sector cut its workforce of 4,133 employees. Exactly 1,315 employees have been fired.

“What I say is, look at the test scores of children in our country since the establishment of the Ministry of Education. Our children are behind,” Donald said. “So, if your child is behind, but we’re funding billions of dollars for this effort, shouldn’t we look into everyone there? Do we need the amount of managers of that outfit when it’s clear that those resources are actually going to be better spent in the hands of parents and ensuring that their children get a better education?”

Donald said the current level of administrative overhead in the education sector is not necessary and that relocating these resources directly to parents through 529 accounts could potentially improve educational outcomes.

“This is one of the reasons why I support ECCA. [Educational Choice for Children Act] I think we’ll have to enter into a budget settlement and these dollars from the Ministry of Education also need to be in the 529 account. That way parents will have direct access to those dollars and make them available for the best benefit of their children,” Donald said.

The Trump administration has implemented layoffs to reduce government waste and strengthen the country’s education system. Officials told DCNF that cuts would not disrupt departmental operations, but would further change surveillance at the state level.
