‘We’re Desperate’: Socialists, Muslims Band Together To Deny Harris The White House

If 75% of Michigan’s roughly 200,000 Muslim Americans vote on Nov. 5, Vice President Kamala Harris is virtually guaranteed to lose the state and its 15 key electors. becomes.

The state’s activist group Drive for 75 believes so. And to accomplish that, Lex Nazarko and his organization raid mosques, He gives voter promotion sermons and knocks on thousands of doors across the state.

“What kind of guarantee was that?” [a Harris loss] What happens? We tried different percentages and different turnout rates, but again the 75% number only takes into account the Muslim community, not other communities, other allies, other progressives. It was something. This virtually guaranteed that the vice president had a 99.9% chance of losing the Michigan election. [the community turned out]” Nazarko told Caller, explaining that he ran numerous mathematical simulations to inform the strategy.

“We ran that simulation 10,000 times and it happened almost every time. That’s how we created the call to action and idea for Drive for 75,” he explained.

Although Harris has not faced as many pro-Palestinian protesters as President Joe Biden, her efforts to thwart the Democratic Party’s presidential aspirations have not disappeared. Muslim Americans have told the Daily Caller that they are calling on Green Party candidate Dr. Jill Stein and, in some cases, former Donald Trump in their communities to hold Harris accountable for her and Biden’s treatment of Israel. He said he is encouraging people to vote for the president. -Hamas war.

“[The Muslim American community] They’ve lost faith in the Democratic Party and the Democratic administration, so they’re trying to find some kind of accountability. And I don’t necessarily want to say punish, but in a sense it’s also a punishment vote. I think they are desperate. we are hopeless. It is also a vote of despair. You know, we want this bloodshed and genocide to end as soon as possible,” Nazarko told the Caller.

The Michigan residents who spoke to the caller acknowledged that President Trump may not have the Israel-Gaza policy that the community wants, but their efforts are changing who they can vote for president. The focus is on punishing the current government rather than on the government. Democrat Khalid Tourani, co-chair of Michigan’s “Abandon Biden” campaign, told the Caller that the movement is also about sending a message to politicians that their voices cannot be ignored. . “We hope that no one, Republican or Democrat, will take our vote for granted. [spoiling Harris’s chances]I hope this book teaches Republicans as well as Democrats that going against the voters is going against the people. If you continue to support genocide, you will lose,” Thulani told the Caller.

Before Biden withdrew from the White House race, massive protest votes in several key battleground states, including Michigan, thwarted Biden’s key victory. Campaigns such as “Abandon Biden” urged Arab and Muslim Americans to protest his Gaza policy and vote for a “non-commitment” voting option. While 81.1% of Democratic primary voters chose Biden, 13.3% (more than 100,000 people) chose not to commit.

In light of Biden withdrawing from the presidential race, Avandon Biden changed his name to Avandon Harris, even though the vice president has taken a tougher stance on Israel than his boss.

“She parroted the same line and said, ‘October 7th is good,’ but, well, over 50,000 people died, two-thirds of them women and children, and she can’t get over the “safety of October 7th”. And we feel this callous disregard for the lives of Palestinian civilians and the destruction of not just their infrastructure, but the entire place of Gaza, and she just keeps parroting the same thing. . Meanwhile, we continue to support Israeli attacks and Palestinian civilians, whose lives, buildings and every aspect of their lives are under attack,” Thulani told the Caller.

“This administration, led by Mr. Biden and Mr. Harris, continues to support that. Another is the fact that every effort to stop the genocide has been thwarted by this administration,” Thulani continued. Ta.

Not all Muslim Americans will vote for Trump to cost Harris the state. In fact, some groups told callers that they expected the community to vote neither way. Just five days ago, Avandon Harris endorsed Stein, who has also received support. some socialist organizations in the United States because of her anti-capitalist economic stance. And the Green Party appears to be aware that its candidacy could undermine Harris’ candidacy.

“We need to be clear about what our goals are. We are not in a position to win the White House. But we have a real chance to win something historic. . We can deny Michigan to Kamala Harris,” Kshama Sawant, a former Seattle City Council member and self-proclaimed socialist, said to cheers at a recent pro-Stein rally.

A spokesperson for the Stein campaign referred Caller to abandon her support for Harris, adding that this “outlines Muslim support for this campaign.”

“circleWe’ve conducted an internal, informal poll, cross-referenced it with other polls conducted in the state and across the country, and spoken to thousands of community members over the past several weeks. This sentiment appears to be either Jill Stein or a third party, followed by Trump, and then Harris at the bottom. So we know that when you take the community out, the natural distribution of both goes towards that third party,” Nazarko told the Caller.

Stephanie Butler, vice chair of the 12th Congressional District Republican Committee, who lives in Dearborn and is married to a Muslim, said the defining moment for Michigan’s Muslim community was when former Vice President Dick Cheney replaced Harris. He told the Caller that he supported it.

“There’s a new thing going around here. People are saying, ‘Hello, she’s endorsed by Dick Cheney.'” That tells you everything you need to know about this woman: Her cause is war. I mean there is,” Butler told the caller.

But even weeks after the election, some fear that angry locals may choose to stay home instead of voting.

“I think the majority of Muslims will vote for Jill Stein. Only a small percentage will vote for Trump,” Dearborn resident Hassan Chami told the Caller. “The problem is, many people might not want to vote at all. If they did, Kamala could win Michigan.”

To address this concern, Drive for 75 is shocking the Muslim community. This initiative currently includes: Citizen representatives and team captains assigned to each mosque under construction. A sub-team of volunteers, each member responsible for providing materials and election updates to 50 contacts in the community. Currently, the scheme is implemented in 25 mosques and will be expanded to more mosques.

Inside these mosques and other community centers, Drive for 75 hosts voting events and uses social media and text messages to encourage Muslim Americans to vote. In the final two weeks of the election cycle, Drive for 75 expects to knock on 10,000 doors.

“Muslims value family and are family-centered. We rely on a large network of community members encouraging each other,” Nazarko told the Caller.

Opinion polls show the race in the state to be even, but there is confidence among locals about what will happen next.

“I can’t help it. [Harris] We’re going to beat Michigan,” Butler told the caller. “That can’t be helped.”
