Elon Musk, a senior White House adviser, told Fox Business host Larry Kudlow that the government’s Department of Efficiency (DOGE) has made “great progress” in finding $1 trillion in waste.
President Donald Trump Established After announcing Musk would be chairman in November last year, he was Doge in an executive order on January 20th. Musk said the big difference between agencies is that they actually “get things done.” (Related: “They’re Finding Things”: Scott Jennings tells CNN hosts how Trump, Musk, “sue a lawsuit” for Doge)
“The software people, the information security, the software people, the finances. It’s basically funding and technology,” Musk told Kudrow. “Frankly, I can’t believe I’m doing this. That’s kind of weird. I think we have this enormous federal deficit, but it’s a $2 trillion deficit. It’s growing. Our interest rate is higher than the Department of Defense budget. That’s a real awakening call for me, and I’ve seen how the interest payments on national debt exceed the Department of Defense budget.”
Musk told Kudlow that he has “big difficulty” running other businesses, including Tesla, SpaceX and X, while advising Trump.
clock:
On February 6, the Trump administration announced plans for a layoff for more than 95% of the New York Times. It has been reported. Congressional Democrats joined the protest outside USAID and Treasury headquarters on February 4 after MUSK announced plans to close USAID following a brief Jan. 31 standoff between USAID employees and DOGE staff.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced Monday morning that more than 5,000 USAID contracts will be cancelled. post In X, the rest is directly managed by the State Department.
“I’m trying to make the government more efficient here and eliminate waste and fraud. So far, we’ve made good progress. Our savings at this point are over $4 billion a day,” Musk said. “So that’s pretty important.”
“Do you think you’re going to save a trillion dollar?” Kudlow asked Musk, replied, “Yeah, unless we stop, it’s going to save a trillion dollar.”
Doge’s efforts to govern wasteful spending in government agencies, including the USAID and the Social Security Agency, have reduced the size of the federal government and have had difficult results in courts. A federal judge recently blocked a memo sent to federal agencies and directed thousands of probation workers to be denied, but other courts allowed Doge to carry out the activities.
Musk said the agency is “making good progress” in pursuit of not just “writing a report,” but also bringing real change. (Related: “It’s a lot of scam”: Karoline Leavitt sniffs attempts to make her trip over NBC News Reporter’s Doge Cuts)
“You’re getting things done, not writing a report. Reporting means nothing. You have to actually take action,” Musk said. “So rights expenditures are something that is a large part of federal expenditures, it’s a qualification, it’s a big thing to eliminate, it’s 50 trillion, maybe 600 or 700 billion a year. It’s also a mechanism by which Democrats essentially attract and maintain illegal immigrants by paying them to come here, and they’re turning them into voters.”
“This is why Democrats are so upset with the situation because they’re losing. If you turn off this huge money magnet for illegal immigration, they’ll leave and you’ll lose your voters,” Musk said.
