Wes Allen and ALEA involve Alabama companies in the battle against human trafficking

Alabama Launches Initiative Against Human Trafficking

A new collaboration between the Alabama Secretary of State’s Office and Alabama Law Enforcement aims to engage businesses and residents in the crucial fight against human trafficking.

Any business in Alabama can register as a partner in this initiative, known as Alabama’s Human Trafficking (ACT) program. Once approved, these businesses will be listed on a designated webpage. Additionally, they will receive resources that offer guidance on recognizing and combating trafficking, along with decals to display prominently in their establishments.

Alabama Secretary of State Wes Allen announced the initiative, encouraging all businesses to get involved. “I urge every Alabama business to join this important cause, and I encourage everyone to share information about the ACT website and related flyers on social media,” Allen stated. He emphasized that the program empowers citizens to help identify and report incidents of trafficking, bringing this pressing issue to the forefront of public awareness.

In discussing the initiative, Hal Taylor, Executive Director of ALEA, recognized its significance in raising awareness about the hidden crimes associated with human trafficking. “When people know what to look for and stay alert, they can assist law enforcement in both identifying victims and stopping traffickers,” he noted.

The initiative has received backing from organizations such as the Alabama District Attorneys Association and the Alabama Security Association. District Attorney Lyle Harmon voiced strong support, stating that increased awareness will lead to more reporting and ultimately accountability for those involved in these crimes.

Furthermore, Huey “Hoss” Mac, executive director of the Alabama Sheriff’s Association, called upon businesses and communities to participate. “The Alabama Security Association proudly partners with Secretary of State Wes Allen in the ACT program. Human trafficking manifests in various forms, as we’ve seen recently in Alabama,” he remarked.

All businesses in the state are welcome to sign up and become ACT partners.
