‘What A Variety Of Whiteness We Have Here’: Hollywood Liberals, Political Elites Flock To Kamala Harris Fundraiser

On Monday night, several Hollywood elites and top Democratic politicians gathered at a major campaign fundraiser to discuss their support for new presidential candidate Kamala Harris and urge the party's voters to head to the polls in November.

The “White Guys Supporting Harris” Zoom call began at 8pm on Monday night and was attended by a host of Hollywood liberals, along with key Democratic officials such as U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg and North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper.

Just before the first major actor took to the stage, the Democratic moderator introduced Maurice Mitchell, national director of the Working Families Party, who joked about joining the call as a Black man. “I want to state the obvious, I don't know if you all noticed, but I'm not white, and yet here I am calling out White Dudes for Kamala and something weird is happening,” Mitchell said before explaining her position joining the men.

Shortly after, Hollywood A-lister Jeff Bridges also joined the call, speaking about his support for the vice president and how President Joe Biden “beautifully” “passed the baton” to Harris after dropping out of the 2024 presidential race on July 21.

“I'm excited. Joe has done a great job of passing the baton and I definitely see Kamala as our daughter. I can see her becoming president. I'm very excited,” Bridges said.

“A woman president is amazing! And I support the way she stands for women's rights. And the way she stands for the environment and taking care of children, her leadership is great and I support and endorse it,” the actor continued.

Buttigieg then criticized former President Donald Trump's campaign against Harris, but praised her campaign theme of “freedom,” noting the freedom that would be gained for men if she were elected vice president.

“When you have a president who supports things like access to abortion care, men have more freedom. When the leader of the free world and the leader of this country supports access to contraception and IVF, men have more freedom. And when you have a president who supports the freedom to marry the person you love, men like me and my husband have more freedom,” Buttigieg said.

Cooper and American singer Josh Groban later joined the group, and the host introduced “The West Wing” actor Bradley Whitford, who highlighted “white diversity” in his campaign calls.

“There's so many shades of whiteness here. There's this guy, there's Pete. It's like a rainbow of beige,” Whitford began.

“I've been saying for the last eight years, if there is a God, she's a terrible writer. If I walked into the White House writers' room and said this person is going to be the Republican nominee – a felon, a convicted rapist, tanned and with hair on top of that – it would be perceived as condescending,” Whitford said, going on to speak about women's rights.
