Wednesday was a day of culling for the Buffalo Bills, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. NFL franchises have cut players one after another, most notably defensive backs Tre'Davious White and Jordan Poyer.
The Bills cut White and Poyer, along with center Mitch Morse, cornerback Cilan Neal, wide receiver Deonte Harty and running back Nyheim Hines, according to Schefter.
Schefter said the move will save $25.96 million in cap space now and an additional $10.2 million in June when White's release becomes official.
By cutting S Jordan Poyer, C Mitch Morse, CB Shiran Neal, WR Deonte Harty, and RB Nyheim Hines, the Bills will create approximately $25.96 million in salary cap space.
Buffalo entered that day $40 million over the cap.
The release of Tre'Davious White would give them another $10.2 million, but only after that. https://t.co/XappVwclC0

I understand that they are well over the cap, worth $40 million, according to Schefter…but this is too much. They are both All-Pros and Pro Bowlers. Poyer earned his first and only All-Pro honor in 2021 and was named to the Pro Bowl a year later.

White was named first-team All-Pro in 2019, second-team All-Pro in 2020, and was selected to the Pro Bowl both years. He led the NFL with six interceptions in 2019. (Related article: NFL star tight end reunites with former coach in sneaky deal)

White suffered a major injury last season, tearing his ACL in October. So I was able to perhaps I can understand why you want to break up with him for that reason. But still, at 29, he is young enough to bounce back and has the potential to break into the top three.

Going forward, the Bills will essentially have to replace their entire secondary. After a season in which the Kansas City Chiefs were eliminated from the playoffs. Also, this move could signal a change in front-office strategy. Is the end in sight for Buffalo's four-year run as AFC East champions?
