Arizona at Stanford University

record: Arizona 2-4, 1-2 Pac-12; Stanford 2-4, 0-4

kick off: 1 p.m., Stamford Stadium

wireless: KNBR 1050 AM

tv set: Pac-12 network

Series history: Stanford has won six of its last eight games, but Arizona State’s victory in Tempe last year started the Cardinals’ 10-game losing streak in the Pac-12.

story: Both teams have their best wins after 1-4 starts, including 3 losses to top 20 teams. Arizona State has fired coach Herm Edwards over a loss to East Michigan, not on suspicion of hiring violations during COVID’s death. The Sun Devils are 1-1 under interim coach Sean Aguano, and two weeks ago at backup QB Trenton Brugge, he beat No. 21 Washington 45-38. Emory Jones, who moved from Florida after missing the game against Washington with a head injury, will return as the starting quarterback against Stanford. Stanford kept Notre Dame scoreless for his 38th minute in the first and kept its slim bowl hopes alive by keeping his 36th minute of possession in his 16-14 victory over South Bend last week. The Cardinal will start earlier than 4:30 p.m. for the first time this season, so there may be more crowds during Homecoming weekend.

Injury: Top receiver Michael Wilson could miss the season after suffering an injury against Notre Dame. Edge rusher David Bailey and tackle Jack Laylor are suspect, as is linebacker Levani Damni. But three aggressive linemen need to come back after missing time. Walter Rouse and Barrett tackle Miller while Levi guards Rogers.
