“What’s the Humor?” Scott Jennings Discusses How Jimmy Kimmel’s Suspension Reveals Bigger Issues in Media

Media Reactions to Jimmy Kimmel’s Comments

Republican strategist Scott Jennings suggested on Thursday that the controversy surrounding Jimmy Kimmel reveals more significant issues within the U.S. media landscape. He noted that Kimmel’s remarks regarding Charlie Kirk have drawn attention to broader concerns, indicating that this isn’t an isolated incident.

Recently, Disney’s ABC announced it would suspend Kimmel’s late-night show indefinitely due to his comments about the assassination of Kirk. This decision followed Nexstar Media Group’s efforts to take over the program, previously affiliated with ABC. During an appearance on “The Lead,” Jennings emphasized that this halt serves as a reflection of underlying challenges in media today.

Jennings also mentioned Brendan Carr, noting that Carr seems to deflect accountability, placing the onus on affiliates like Nexstar and Sinclair. He believes these groups should have more influence over network decisions. “I read him his quote,” Jennings remarked, elaborating on the situation.

Kimmel had stated, “This wasn’t a satire,” which Jennings interpreted as an inconsistency—that Kimmel was trying to downplay the seriousness of the situation. Many on the conservative side viewed Kimmel’s take on recent shooting incidents not as humor but as a calculated effort to mislead the public about the motives behind the actions of the shooter.

In a recent monologue, Kimmel criticized the “Magagang,” asserting that Republicans were attempting to deflect blame away from Kirk’s suspected assassin. Before the arrest of 22-year-old Tyler Robinson for the murder, investigators revealed that the bullet casings found at the scene had messages like “Hey Fascist! Catch!” and other statements perceived as provocative.

Robinson was apprehended on a Friday, prompting various Democrats to speculate online about his potential far-right affiliations. In response, Utah’s Republican Governor Spencer Cox remarked that Robinson appeared to be heavily influenced by leftist ideologies, viewing Kirk as a figure spreading hate.
