The mother of a fugitive found in Mexico with a Guangdong teenage boy is missing and authorities fear she may have been victimized.
A missing persons report was filed for Nicole D. Jones, 53, on May 5. sylvanian township police I was asked to check on her, but she was not found. According to the report, Canton State Police requested a welfare check after receiving information that Ms Jones may have been injured or worsened.
Sylvanian Township Deputy Police Chief Jim Rettig released a copy of the report and confirmed her identity.
“Police officers from the Sylvania Township Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Service entered the home but were unable to locate the woman who was asked to identify her,” police said in a statement. “Information gathered during the ensuing investigation led the department to believe that the missing woman was in harm’s way. This is an active investigation.”

Sylvania Township is a suburb of Toledo, about 21 miles west of the city.
Jones is the mother of 33-year-old Jonathan Jones, who lives in Toledo. He was detained in Mexico on Monday after an investigation spanning both countries. Authorities did not say how Jonathan Jones and the girl met.
Federal officials Saturday requested assistance in tracking them down.
The Cochise County, Arizona Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Jones and the girl were seen driving a 2021 Buick owned by Nicole Jones during a search on May 5.
According to the missing persons report, Nicole Jones is Caucasian, 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs 110 pounds. She has brown hair and blue eyes. She didn’t have a photo.
Jonathan Jones pleaded guilty in March to charges of pandering to obscenities and endangering children. The conviction stems from an incident in Wood County in 2022.
He was expected to be sentenced in the case last week, but he did not appear in court on May 4.
An agent said Monday that Jonathan Jones has been taken into custody and the girl has been recovered. The FBI assisted Mexican authorities in their search.
