The White House appears to have edited a video of Today News Africa’s Simon Ateba from Monday’s press conference video on YouTube, saying press secretary Carine Jeanpierre dismissed the reporter after Ateba asked a series of questions. The threat was no longer visible.
The White House posted a clearly edited version of the meeting on YouTube that cuts the exchange between Ateba and Jean-Pierre. The video jumps to a shot of Jean-Pierre speaking at the podium from White House National Security Press Secretary John Kirby at around 1:02:00. But other feeds from the press conference show Jean-Pierre and Ateba had a brief but heated exchange, as seen in this article. NBC news stream It starts around the 44th minute mark after Kirby walks off the podium.
When Jean-Pierre took the stage, Ateba accused her of refusing to visit him for months. Minutes earlier, Jean-Pierre had said the administration was “committed to press freedom.”
“You have been discriminating against me for the past nine months,” Ateba said.
“Stop. How is she discriminating?” I heard one of the reporters ask.
“She called you and asked you some questions,” Ateba replied. “Let me do my job, let me ask you a question.”
Jean-Pierre tried to call another reporter, but Ateba continued, and Jean-Pierre threatened to cut off the press conference.
“If this continues, I will end the press conference. If this continues, you are incredibly rude. You are incredibly rude. You are talking about a colleague.”
