Why are gas prices cheaper in some parts of Southern Arizona?

Tucson, Arizona (KGUN) — As you may have noticed, Sierra Vista and Douglas gas is cheaper than Tucson.

A refinery in El Paso, Texas, which supplies most of the gas to southern Arizona, has resumed operations after months of maintenance, the AAA said.

AAA spokesman Julian Paredes said this means gas supplies will return to normal soon, but the proximity of eastern counties will see lower prices first. Pima County will also take longer due to its extensive infrastructure.

No one knows how far the price will drop. Southern Arizona also receives gas from a New Mexico refinery that is not yet operational. Paredes said the AAA did not know the details of the situation.

Another factor in gas prices is demand. More people are preparing to drive for the weekend of remembrance, resulting in a gradual rise in gas prices across the country, AAA reports.
