“Why Did You Wait So Long to Claim It?” Will Cain Questions Wes Moore on Military Honors

Fox News Host Questions Maryland Governor on Military Honors

During a recent segment on “The Will Cain Show,” host Will Cain confronted Maryland Governor Wes Moore regarding discrepancies in his military honors. Cain suggested that Moore had inaccurately claimed certain military decorations before they were actually awarded to him.

Moore’s 2006 White House Fellowship application reportedly lists the Bronze Star and a combat action badge, as well as an unverified honor from the “Maryland College Football Hall of Fame.” However, according to Cain, those awards were not conferred until years later. He pressed Moore for clarification on why he included those honors in his application.

“In 2006, you indicated in your application that you were a Bronze Star recipient, but that wasn’t true at the time. Can you explain why you continued to make such claims over the years?” Cain asked.

In response, Moore emphasized his pride in serving the country, stating that anyone familiar with military service would understand the significance of his contributions. “I’m proud of my service and the recognition I’ve received from the US Army, including the Bronze Star and the Battle Action Badge,” he said.

Cain acknowledged Moore’s service but reiterated the importance of honesty about his military record. “You received the Bronze Star two years ago, but you claimed it well before that. Why is that?” he pressed.

The conversation highlighted a statement from the Pentagon, where Moore was described as a prime example of a politician inflating his credentials. Despite repeated inquiries, Moore shifted focus back to his service, expressing gratitude for the honors he eventually did receive. “I appreciate the soldiers I served with and the sacrifices we’ve made,” he remarked.

Moore has acknowledged mistakes in his 2006 application, which incorrectly listed military awards, and he has commented that critics often misuse these errors to challenge his integrity as a veteran. He expressed regret about not correcting the record sooner.

In various interviews with prominent figures like Gwen Ifill and Stephen Colbert, Moore has faced introductions that inaccurately referred to him as a Bronze Star recipient without any clarifications made afterward.

Requests for comments from Moore’s office went unanswered.
