“Evil” star Cynthia Eribo claimed during her acceptance speech at the GLAAD Media Awards on March 27th that people have always embraced the use of the “them/them” pronouns.
Erivo advocated diversity, equity and inclusion in celebrations that celebrate the best in LGBTQ+ media. “That’s not easy. None of them,” she said. “It’s yours to wake up and choose to be yourself and declare a space when you’re not welcome.”
She continued to complain about the challenges she faced, dealing with the complaints of teaching people how to deal with you and dealing with people reteaching.

Eribo was awarded the Stephen F. Colzak Award, distributed to “open and strange members of the entertainment or media community for their work to eliminate homophobia.”
The bisexual actor complained about how difficult it is to pursue a dream as a strange person, saying, “It’s not easy to ask you to treat you with dignity because you should have it because you are given it.”
“If the world around you is knocking on your door and telling you to stay inside, it’s not easy to learn to grow who you are.”
