Stacey Wakefield, widow of Boston Red Sox legend Tim Wakefield, passed away on Wednesday.
a 19 years Tim, an MLB veteran known for his knuckleball pitching, passed away in October after battling brain cancer. Stacey was also battling cancer.
“It is with deep sadness that we share the news that our beloved mother, daughter, sister, niece, and aunt Stacey passed away today at her home in Massachusetts,” the Wakefield family said in a statement. “She was surrounded by her family, dear friends and wonderful carers and nurses. The loss is unimaginable, especially after losing Tim just under five months ago. Our hearts are completely broken.”
Before Tim's death, he and Stacey had been married since 2002. They had his two children.

From 1995 to 2001, Tim Wakefield played for the Boston Red Sox, appearing in a total of 590 games with the team. During that time, he pitched 3,006 innings and posted a 4.43 ERA. He won two World Series championship rings during his time in Boston.

Wakefield featured as a member of the Red Sox team that won the World Series in 2004, just one year after Aaron Boone hit a walk-off home run against him in the 2003 Red Sox-New Jersey thriller. He broke the “Bambino Curse”. York Yankees. Wakefield won his second ring in 2007 when Boston defeated the Colorado Rockies.
