Wildland Fire at Lynx Lake Campground – Prescott Fire Department

At approximately 3:15 pm on June 19, 2023, the Prescott Regional Communications Center received a 911 call that a vehicle fire was spreading through the forest at Lynx Lake Campground. Initial reports said the wildfire was about the size of a football field. The responding fire brigade reported seeing smoke from Highway 69 and Walker Road.

The first-arriving firefighters quickly extinguished the vehicle fire, after which the arriving forces concentrated their suppression efforts on the field. After about two hours, the fire had spread to about 1.5 acres. Multiple resources from the Prescott Fire Department, Central Arizona Fire and Medical Service, United States Forest Service (USFS), Walker Fire Department, and Yavapai County Sheriff’s Department responded. Rapid fire suppression and containment would not have been possible without the coordinated efforts of all relevant agencies.

The site was eventually handed over to the USFS, which will continue to monitor the wreckage over the next few hours. It is unknown what caused the vehicle to catch fire. This incident is still under investigation.
