By Monday afternoon, the suspected culprit, the bear, had been captured and euthanized, according to the Associated Press. Investigators noted that the tent at the scene of the attack contained accessible trash, coolers and human food, which likely attracted the bear to the area. Investigators stressed that while the bear had never had a prior conflict with humans, it had become accustomed to human food and appeared to be less fearful of their presence. In response to the attack, Fish and Wildlife and Parks Service officials are urging campers to follow safety guidelines, such as storing food, trash and smelly items in bear-proof containers or safely in their vehicles, to prevent dangerous encounters, according to the Associated Press.
