WILLCOX, Ariz. (KGUN) — Randy Coleman is using his talent for designing floral arrangements to support students in Willcox and the surrounding area by offering low-cost or free corsages and boutonnieres this prom season. It offers.
She saw the idea of a corsage bar on social media, but gave it a twist by charging for it.
“The idea was to make sure that any child who wanted a corsage or boutonniere could get one whether they could afford it or not,” Coleman said.
To date, she has made 20 for St. David and St. Simon’s students. More requests came in this week, and she expects more proms to be held this weekend.
When Coleman shared her idea, Wilcox’s other companies wanted to support the cause. Leigha Burris, the owner of Bakeser’s Pastries, said she wanted to help as soon as Coleman told her about the project. The cost of corsages and boutonnieres was covered by Barris and other local businesses, allowing students to receive what they wanted for free.
“I like giving back, especially to children. Everyone deserves a nice dress or a nice corsage. It’s really cool to be able to do that.”
Some families who receive one of the donated items choose to pay in advance.
“Kids really appreciate it and their parents,” Coleman said.
By the end of the prom season, Coleman said she estimates 50 students will receive flowers from her store as part of the program. In the future, Burris said he would help “as long as[Coleman]allows it.”
