Williams educators nominated for 2023 Coconino Teacher of the Year | Williams-Grand Canyon News

WILLIAMS, Arizona — Three Williams teachers have been nominated for the 2023 Coconino County Teacher Awards.

Coconino County Superintendent Sheryl Mungo Paget visited Williams in October to recognize the candidates.

Guggisberg is a middle school math teacher and data specialist at Williams Elementary School (WEMS).She was named by WEMS Principal Tammara Ragsdale

Mitkowski is a history and language teacher at Williams High School (WHS). She was named by her WHS Principal Connie Hargis.

“Mitkowski is a dedicated teacher who puts his heart and soul into providing a great education for the students of the Williams Unified School District,” Hargis said. “In addition to providing quality and engaging instruction to students, Mitkowski volunteers her after-school hours to support students in clubs and sports. Her dedication to her students and their development continues unabated. I also generously give time to my fellow teachers to support me both in my professional development and emotionally.”

Sanchez teaches a combined 7th and 8th grade class at Heritage Elementary School. He was nominated by Heritage Principal Katie Danenberger.

“Roman is great at connecting and caring for students and families,” says Dannenberger. “He goes above and beyond to assist students in areas they are struggling with, and often stays after school to offer additional help with any subject that students may be catching up on or struggling with. He volunteers in various areas of the school and is always happy to help out.He also helps former students who may be struggling in high school. .

Candidates complete an application along with a letter of support that is reviewed by a panel of judges composed of educators, business and community leaders.

A jury will determine the top candidates to be interviewed in February. After the interview, the judges will choose her three finalists in several categories.

Finalists will be announced by March 1st, and winners will be announced on April 20th at a celebration event.

Coconino County Teacher of the Year is funded solely by sponsors. Findlay Toyota is offering the Coconino County Teacher Award winner a vehicle with his one-year lease. Winners and finalists will receive cash and prizes due to the generosity of our sponsors.
