Students have a recipe for true guts!

There are several final results that determine the success of Wind River Job Corps. It’s a good day when a student graduates and gets a job in his or her specialty. A student’s pre-training at another center or going on to university is also a path to success.

However, students who pursue this particular path to success are truly ambitious as their professional skills, physical prowess, mental resources and leadership qualities are all put to the test. Perhaps that is why they are called “minorities”. That career path is in the military, and for Job Corp Student of the Week Christian Lucero Montana, that means a career in the United States Marine Corps.

Christian moved from Apache Junction, Arizona to the Job Corps campus in Riverton four months ago. He soon began training as a lorry driver. The training will help Christian obtain a commercial driver’s license, allowing him to drive large tractor-trailer rigs on roads across the country and anywhere the Marine Corps wants to send him.

“Christian works hard, but you hardly know when he’s off,” says center director Dr. Christine Benson. “He combines this with a sociable personality and an appreciation for the efforts of others. These traits are the secret to true guts.”

Ultimately, using his experience in Marine Corps and transportation, Christian hopes to pursue a career in quality control management. He is a student with a vision for the future.
