Winona Ryder Describes The Bizarre Exchange She Had With Harvey Weinstein

Winona Ryder has said she felt blacklisted by Miramax in the past, and believes that was partly due to her interactions with Harvey Weinstein.

The famous actress said that Miramax was not interested in her “in the late 1990s and early 2000s” for “a variety of reasons,” and then Esquire In an interview published on August 29, Ryder described her clash with Weinstein, saying she had unwittingly angered the company's once-all-powerful, now-fallen tycoon and co-founder, who is now in prison on multiple sexual assault charges.

Ryder said Weinstein ran Miramax until 2005, but she didn't make a good impression on him.

“When I was supposed to have a meeting [Harvey Weinstein]”I went into the Miramax offices, I reached out, he shook my hand, I sat on the couch and we talked, and then I left,” Ryder told Esquire magazine.

To the actress, their encounter seemed normal, but she later learned Weinstein didn't think the same way.

“and [afterwards] It's like I was yelled at [by an agent]”…'What the hell did you do?'” Ryder said.

“I was like, 'What?' Apparently I put my hand out and made him mad… I guess,” she told Esquire magazine.

Ryder said he had already worked with Miramax on the 1993 film “The House of the Spirits” and recalled another incident with Weinstein that seemed odd at the time.

The actress said Weinstein banged on her trailer door during production and relentlessly tried to convince her to star in the film adaptation of the stage play “Little Voice.”

“And I thought, 'Oh my God, I just saw that in London,'” Ryder recalled.

“I was like, 'I've got to cast that girl.' [from the play]”I said, 'Jane Horrocks. She's so amazing,' and he got really weird and walked away,” she said, according to Esquire magazine.

“He didn't like me,” she said. (RELATED: '90s star Mira Sorvino tearfully says turning down Harvey Weinstein offers sabotaged her career)
