Phoenix (3TV/CBS 5) – It’s the first day of weather alert across Arizona as winter storms move in from the west.
Rain continues in the Valley and is expected to continue through the early to mid-afternoon. A few showers are possible tonight. Temperatures in the valley can stay in the 50s all day long. Up to 3/4 inch of rain can fall.
A massive winter storm swept across the state on Wednesday, causing temperatures to plummet in the Valley.
A winter weather advisory is in effect for the highlands through tomorrow morning. Look out for snow and blizzards, with gusts of wind up to 50 mph. Snow can fall in the mid-afternoon throughout the day, but for Flagstaff, the heaviest snowfall is expected in the morning hours. By 5 a.m., the city had already picked up over six inches of fresh powder. Today, a few more inches are possible with snow levels nearing 6,500 feet.
Look for the slight chance of more rain in the valley tomorrow. Higher altitudes can bring a few more inches of snow.
Friday and Saturday will bring a short break in storm activity before the next strong winter system arrives on Sunday. It’s another first alert weather day across Arizona, with a 90% chance of rain in the valley, especially on Sunday morning. This storm in the mountains can bring low snow levels and high snow loads. We will keep you updated as we get closer.
