With a break from severe weather, teams focus on battling the Dragon Bravo fire

Dragon Bravo Fire Update

The Dragon Bravo Fire, situated in the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, has expanded to around 112,000 acres, with containment at about 8%. Officials remain hopeful that increasing cloud cover, reduction in dry conditions, and the possibility of isolated thunderstorms might help shift the situation positively.

Firefighters plan to utilize the better weather and higher humidity levels to become more proactive in battling this significant wildfire in the region. According to spokesperson Lisa Jennings, although the weather improvements are promising, the fight remains challenging.

“A favorable fire weather day for the Dragon Bravo Fire can be tough for other fire conditions, so we need to maintain that perspective,” Jennings explains.

Most of the fire’s recent spread has occurred at the Northern Edge, while crews have bolstered their efforts on the southwest side. Jennings expresses concern that the flames may reignite and move from the rim into Bright Angel Canyon.

“We have initiated water drops and are controlling further drops in that region as firefighters work directly on the fire line to establish containment,” Jennings reports.

Last night, with fire activity being more subdued, firefighters managed to alter and decrease the available fuel around some structures on the North Rim.

Currently, nearly 1,200 personnel are engaged in combating the flames.
