Woman Allegedly Gives Her Baby To Random Couple At Restaurant, Said She Couldn’t Care For It

Police said the woman allegedly gave the baby to a random couple on Tuesday after claiming she could not care for it.

The couple were reportedly handed a baby at a Hollywood restaurant on Tuesday by a woman who claimed she couldn’t care for them. According to KTLA5.

Police say recipients of the one-month-old baby handed him over to the Beverly Hills Police Department after the late-night incident at Chris N. Eddy’s eatery. (Related: Police prosecute nursery school owner after discovering corpse of child picked up by mother)

The woman reportedly approached a couple who were eating at a restaurant while holding their child. She reportedly told her couple that she could not care for her offspring before leaving her child with strangers.

KTLA 5 said the baby appeared healthy but was taken to the hospital for testing.

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) was turned over the case by the Beverly Hills Police Department because the incident occurred within the city’s jurisdiction. It’s unclear why the couple decided to take their child to the Beverly Hills Police Department in the first place.

The Los Angeles Police Department will decide whether the incident constitutes a safe surrender. California’s Safe Delivery Act stipulates that a legal custodial parent may safely and secretly hand over a baby within 72 hours of birth without fear of persecution.

Further details regarding the incident have not yet been released.
