PHOENIX — A woman caught in floods the night before was found dead Thursday in northeastern Arizona, officials said.
The husband of a 64-year-old woman overcomes the ordeal, The Navajo County Sheriff’s Office said.
The husband told the NCSO that as the couple were crossing a puddle known as Seymour’s Crossing, on Hatch Road, about 16 miles west of State Route 377, the water rushed so fast that it swept the Jeep off the dirt road. Told.
The jeep came to a halt after being pushed downstream, and the couple managed to crawl out and reach the river bank about an hour later.
They were separated while they sought help in the dark.
Local residents found her husband in the morning and took him to safety. He called the sheriff’s office around 10:45 a.m. Thursday to report his wife missing.
A multi-agency search was launched and the woman’s body was found half a mile downstream from the jeep, about 200 feet above the water, the NCSO said.
In addition to the Sheriff’s Department, the Navajo County Search and Rescue, Hashknife Police Department, Joseph City Fire Department, Holbrook EMS, and the Arizona Department of Public Safety participated in the search.
No other information has been made public. Investigation is ongoing.
It was the third death reported in connection with the state’s floods this week, as rainfall and thaw created dangerous conditions. Mr. and Mrs. Payson are found dead the day after their car is immobilized by a flood in the creek.
